9/10 – A tonal weapon!” – Kevin Berry, Gigs & Guitars UK

The Privateer Standard. A new benchmark for playability and tonal versatility. Have it made your way by choosing the unique woods for the top & fretboard, then choose your tonal palette from the 4 different pick up configurations available and finally, have it finished off in a colour scheme that’s as unique as you.

  • Body : It all starts here, with a light weight 2pc Cedrela body. An equatorial exotic wood renowned for its extreme resonance and stability. It also happens to be one of the sweetest smelling woods out there.
  • Top : The first of your customisable options, choose from classic flame maple, luxurious quilt maple or even plain maple if you want the top painted a colour… yes, even the flip paint!
  • Neck : 2 pieces of flame maple, which are stained to match your top colour,  encase a cedrela centre splice with 2 black pinstripes. This is then shaped to comfortable ‘C’ profile.
  • Fingerboard : Your second customisable option. Choose from Crelicam ebony, also known as streaky ebony, or the classic Indian rosewood, both of which are then fitted with classy, yet understated 4mm mother of pearl dots before a 12″ radius is applied.
  • Headstock Veneer : This is ebony, why? Because it’s a class touch. Some companies use black fibre, others prefer to paint holly, but we prefer a good piece of ebony.
  • Nut : We use black corian for our nuts. It’s a man made composite that unlike bone, is consistent in its hardness all the way through and polishes up beautifully.
  • Frets : As standard we use the Dunlop 6105, but if you’d prefer 6000 or 6100, we’ll happily put that in for you. The ‘Standard’ comes with 22 frets but is available with a 24 fret option if need it.
  • Scale Length : 25″ – it’s short enough to add a little extra roundness in your tone, but also long enough to to retain a tight bottom and not have your low ‘E’ flapping around like a rusty gate in the wind.

  • Finish : This is where you can really make a statement with your Privateer. You can have any colour scheme, from stains and bursts across your exotic top, or a flashy pearl colour or flip pigment to set yourself apart. All you then have to choose from is whether you want a high gloss finish, or lightly aged nitro finish that will continue to age as you play your guitar.

  • Pick Ups : As standard, we use the Sunbear 56-SB90 in the neck, and the Sunbear 59 SB-PAF in the bridge. However, you don’t have to have yours this way. You could Have H-H, H-P90, P90-H or P90-P90. Once you’ve chosen we talk about some wiring options, including series x parallel, coil splitting and phase switching.
  • Electronics : A 3 way toggle for simple switching, We then use CTS and or OMEG potentiometers with either a Switchcraft or PureTone jack.
  • Knobs & Surrounds : We’ve chosen to the Anomaly knobs and modern surrounds to round off the modern look of the Privateer. After all, is there anything worse than buying a high end guitar and it coming with cheap knobs or surrounds?!
  • Machine Heads : Gotoh SG381 locking. These have great tuning stability and make string changes a breeze!
  • Bridge : The Gotoh UB510 wrap over bridge adds to the modern looks and adds tonal mass to the ‘Standard’ If you choose to change string gauge then fret not as there’s plenty of adjustment for the intonation.
