The JL-1 is a Pioneer – P1 done Jake Leigh’s way. The most obvious change is the stunning colour, which we named ‘Sea of tranquility’ burst. starting with a light, tropical blue which fades through to darkened cosmic purple edge – after all, the sea of tranquility isn’t on earth…
The electronics are the next big difference on the JL-1. The ‘Hartshorn‘ humbuckers from Alchemy Pick Ups might fool you into thinking the bridge humbucker is just an uncovered option, but there’s more to it. The bridge is actually a ceramic magnet instead of alnico, and to compensate, the neck is now an alnico 5 magnet instead of the standard alnico 3. This gives the pick ups a tighter, higher output with a lot of focus in the upper mids – they sound particularly huge with lower tunings – Jake has his tuned to Drop B. From there we have the 3 way toggle as standard but then only a master volume topped with a custom Q parts knob and no tone control.
The core timbers in the guitar are all standard options on the P1 list ; A maple neck topped with an ebony fingerboard, the body however, is a single piece of swamp ash rather than a 2 piece and then oil finished, as per all P1 models. The dot side markers are also upgraded to ‘Luminlay‘ glow in the dark dots to make it a little easier to see on dimly lit stages.
